James Baroud Vision 150 Soft Roof Top Tent
The soft roof top tent James Baroud Vision 150 redefines overland camping with fast deployment assisted by gas struts. Compact, durable, and surprisingly spacious, it suits both small cars and families. As a result, it becomes the ideal companion for Canadian getaways, whether it’s a simple weekend or an extended off-grid stay.
- Internal dimensions: 150 cm × 220 cm (59 × 87 in).
- Open height: 120 cm (47 in) for excellent freedom of movement.
- Closed height: 33.5 cm (13 in) for a discreet, aerodynamic profile.
- Weight without ladder: 52 kg (114 lb), with a 3% variation due to manual assembly.
- Capacity: 2 adults + 1 child.
- Wind resistance: tested up to 120 km/h (75 mph).
- Structure: high-strength aluminum + reinforced composite floor.
- Fabric: patented triple-layer construction with integrated insulation.
- Opening: gas struts for smooth deployment in seconds.
- Warranty: 5 years — one of the best on the market.
These features make the choice easier for campers. For example, its light weight simplifies mounting on small cars, while its closed height reduces aerodynamic drag, helping lower fuel consumption.
Premium Materials and European Manufacturing
For over 30 years, James Baroud has been building high-end roof top tents in Europe. All materials come from the continent to ensure uncompromising quality. For example, hard shells are produced in Milan, while the fabric used for this soft roof top tent comes from the Netherlands, from the same supplier used for certain NASA applications.
Gütermann threads from Germany reinforce seam durability, and each tent is hand-assembled in Porto, Portugal. As a result, you get exceptional craftsmanship backed by a 5-year warranty.
Patented Evolution Fabric of the soft roof top tent
Thanks to its three-layer construction, this fabric delivers remarkable insulation. It resists UV, repels water, and stays taut even in strong winds. Therefore, the Vision 150 maintains impressive stability up to 120 km/h.
Two doors and four windows provide efficient ventilation and panoramic views. In addition, tear-resistant mosquito nets offer long-lasting protection, while rubberized zippers stay quiet and easy to use.
Robust and Versatile Floor
The aluminum-composite floor of the soft roof top tent combines thermal insulation and rigidity. Built in two “clamshell” panels, it opens sideways with telescopic poles. Two rail sets allow installation on the left, right, or rear, with 65 or 80 cm spacing.
As a result, mounting stays simple and secure with James Baroud clamps. In addition, the aerodynamic design helps reduce fuel consumption.
High-Strength Telescopic Poles
Adjustable aluminum poles ensure stability and leveling even on uneven ground. Thanks to scaffold-inspired engineering, each leg adjusts independently for a perfect anchor.
High-Density Mattress of the soft roof top tent
The 65 mm mattress in 28 kg/m³ density foam provides ideal comfort for long nights. Its washable cover makes maintenance easy. For cold climates, you can add an anti-condensation mat to improve airflow.
Ladder and Accessories Included with the soft roof top tent
The telescopic ladder (2.4 m) supports 200 kg and features anti-slip steps and rubberized ends for optimal stability. It stores in a waterproof PVC bag. An XL version (3 m) is also available.
James Baroud Portable Light (optional)
The included rechargeable USB light offers white, red, and night-vision modes. Thanks to built-in magnets, it attaches to the tent or works for hiking. Its 360° rotation delivers precise lighting.
Mounting Clamps
High-density clamps adjust from 30 to 85 mm and resist freezing and corrosion. Tightening to 14 Nm ensures reliable holding off-road. Six clamps are included with the soft roof top tent.
Compatibility
The Vision 150 fits most roof bars and racks. It can open sideways or to the rear and pairs perfectly with James Baroud awnings, annexes, and 4-season kits. In addition, it supports portable diesel heaters and solar panels for a complete off-grid setup.
Uses and Real-World Scenarios
For a quick weekend, its fast setup and generous ventilation deliver comfortable nights. During extended trips, the interior space helps you store gear efficiently. Therefore, you travel more organized and lighter.
In extreme conditions or for multi-week off-grid stays, its outstanding weather resistance provides reliable protection. Adding interior insulation further improves comfort during the Canadian winter.
Practical Tips for Campers
On soft ground, anchor the poles properly and use a level to adjust the base. On road trips, check the clamps regularly and add a portable light for better night-time comfort.
For long off-grid travel, test your setup before departure, install an anti-condensation mat, and plan your energy with solar panels. As a result, you stay autonomous and ready for any conditions.
