Clamshell Roof Top Tent for 3 people

These specs make it easier for campers to choose with confidence. For example, its 23 cm closed height helps you clear low branches and significantly improves aerodynamics. In addition, its controlled weight simplifies installation on midsize SUVs. As a result, you can hit the trail quickly, even on demanding terrain.

Materials and European Manufacturing

For over 30 years, James Baroud has been building globally recognized high-end hard shell roof top tents known for durability. For this reason, all materials come exclusively from Europe to ensure uncompromising quality.

Hard shells are moulded in Milan, Italy. Technical fabrics come from the Netherlands — from the same manufacturer used for certain NASA equipment. Finally, seams are sewn with Gütermann threads from Germany for maximum strength.

Each tent is then hand-assembled at the Porto factory in Portugal, ensuring precision, strength, and long-term reliability. As a result, the 5-year warranty covers the entire product, for a confident investment.

Reinforced 4 mm ABS Clamshell Roof Top Tent Shell

The 4 mm ABS shell resists impacts, UV, and extreme weather. In addition, its wedge shape deflects wind and rain effectively, keeping things stable and quiet even in harsh conditions.

The integrated crossbars support up to 50 kg, so you can carry kayaks, bikes, skis, or extra cargo. In addition, side rain gutters allow you to add external bags or extra gear.

Important Recommendation – Safety and Optimal Mounting

Since these models use an ABS shell (not fiberglass), their structure is not designed for side cantilever mounting. To ensure maximum safety, optimal durability, and proper load distribution, we strongly recommend using roof bars that span the full width of the tent.

For the ideal solution, we recommend James Baroud Quick Release roof bars, selected in the appropriate length. They provide a full, continuous support surface, ensuring superior stability, better absorption of off-road stresses, and total peace of mind, even on demanding expeditions.

Breathable Aluminized Fabric

This aluminized fabric significantly reduces interior heat in full sun while staying breathable to reduce condensation. As a result, the large windows of the hard shell roof top tent deliver 180° panoramic views and exceptional ventilation.

Tear-resistant mosquito screens keep insects out, while hidden zippers improve insulation and give a clean, minimalist look.

High-Density Mattress

The 65 mm high-density foam mattress ensures comfortable sleep, even after long days on Canadian roads. Its washable cover makes maintenance easy and, as an add-on, an optional anti-condensation mat improves airflow under the mattress.

Optimized Interior Storage

Ceiling nets, hanging pockets, and side spaces make it easy to organize lights, clothing, and accessories. The internal space, even when closed, stores the ladder and a few essentials.

Portable Light (optional)

The rechargeable USB light offers multiple lighting modes. Thanks to its magnets, it attaches to the shell or any metal surface — perfect for camp evenings or night setups.

Ladder and Clamps of the hard shell roof top tent

The telescopic ladder extends to 2.4 m and supports up to 200 kg. Its anti-slip steps ensure safe climbing. The six included clamps provide a solid mounting solution on most roof racks.

Compatibility and Integrations

The Nova L mounts on most standard racks. Just verify your vehicle’s dynamic load rating (often 75 kg). It’s also compatible with James Baroud awnings, 4-season insulation, and annexes.

For even more autonomy, pair it with a portable diesel heater or an EcoFlow solar system. As a result, your setup becomes fully independent for remote expeditions in Canada.

Real-World Uses and Scenarios for the hard shell roof top tent

For a weekend, the Nova L deploys instantly and offers a clear view of Québec landscapes. For multi-week road trips, its interior space and breathable fabric noticeably improve day-to-day comfort.

On extended off-grid expeditions, its rugged shell and adjustable clamshell opening provide reliable protection against cold winds and Canadian storms.

Practical Tips for Campers

Face the tent into the wind on exposed terrain for maximum stability. Use the integrated bars to carry bulky gear. For quick weekends, choose spots with low clearance.

On road trips, optimize the interior space to store essential gear. Add a portable LED light for evenings. Finally, for winter, use an anti-condensation mat and check ventilation.
