Premium Materials and European Manufacturing
For over 30 years, James Baroud has excelled at building high-end hard shell roof top tents. All materials are fully sourced in Europe to ensure uncompromising quality.
Hard shells are moulded in Milan, Italy. Technical fabrics come from the Netherlands, from a manufacturer also recognized for applications used in NASA space suits. Seams use Gütermann thread from Germany for maximum strength.
Each tent is then hand-assembled in Portugal, ensuring strict quality control. Therefore, the 5-year warranty covers the entire product, for a safe and long-lasting investment.
High-Strength Hard Shell
The multi-layer fiberglass shell withstands the toughest weather: snow, extreme cold, intense sun, or heavy rain. The integrated UV gelcoat protects the surface for the long term.
A solar fan integrated at the top refreshes air continuously, effectively reducing condensation. In addition, self-locking latches ensure a secure closure, even on rough trails.
You can also customize your hard shell roof top tent with over 200 RAL colours, for a look that perfectly matches your vehicle.
Patented Technical Fabric
The James Baroud fabric repels water, blocks UV, and remains breathable, helping reduce condensation. Thanks to the optimized cut and fabric tension, the tent stays stable even in strong winds.
Three panoramic openings provide a 180° view, ideal for taking in Canadian landscapes. Tear-resistant mosquito screens deliver airflow and insect protection, while rubberized zippers stay quiet even in cold weather.
Integrated Solar Fan
The solar fan (19.2 m³/h) delivers constant airflow day and night. Its internal battery provides 24 hours of runtime and recharges automatically in sunlight. As a result, the interior stays dry, cool, and comfortable.
Secure Latches of the Lightweight roof top tent
Self-locking latches prevent accidental opening while driving. They are compatible with padlocks for added security. Their rugged build ensures a perfect hold off-road.
High-Pressure Struts
Hydraulic struts enable instant, assisted opening. Once locked, they keep the structure taut, improving wind resistance and overall stability.
High-Density Comfort Mattress of the Lightweight roof top tent
The 65 mm mattress in 28 kg/m³ density foam delivers true bed-like comfort, even on expeditions. Its washable cover makes maintenance easy. An anti-condensation mat is available as an option to optimize airflow.
James Baroud Portable Light (optional)
The included rechargeable USB lamp offers multiple modes (white, red anti-insect) and mounts anywhere thanks to its magnets. Ideal for camping evenings in Québec or British Columbia.
Smart Storage
The ceiling net and side pockets store light clothing and accessories. The 20 cm closed space under the shell holds pillows and sleeping bags even when the tent is folded.
Included Telescopic Ladder with the Lightweight roof top tent
The adjustable ladder (up to 2.4 m) supports 200 kg. Its anti-slip steps provide safe climbing, even in the rain. An XL 3 m version is available.
Mounting Clamps and Rails
The high-density polymer clamps (30–85 mm) resist Canadian freezing temps and corrosion. Recommended torque: 14 Nm. The rails spaced at 65 cm make it easy to install the hard shell roof top tent on most roof bars.
For off-road use, three roof bars are recommended. Do not exceed 100 km/h when the tent is installed.
Compatibility of the hard shell roof top tent
The Discovery M fits most roof racks and roof bars. Compatible with James Baroud awnings, annexes, 4-season insulation, and solar setups. Ideal for SUVs, pickups, vans, and overland builds.
Real-World Use Scenarios
For a quick weekend, the tent deploys in seconds and delivers an exceptional panoramic view. For multi-week trips, its light weight supports long distances and varied routes.
For extended off-grid travel, its ability to handle extreme Canadian conditions — cold, humidity, wind — makes it a reliable and durable solution.
Practical Tips for Campers in Canada
Install three roof bars for challenging trails. Check the hard shell roof top tent latches before hitting the highway. On road trips, use the internal storage to optimize vehicle space.
For winter or extended stays, use the anti-condensation mat and monitor ventilation. Also, adjust speed to conditions to maximize the tent’s lifespan.
