James Baroud Vision 180 Soft Roof Top Tent
The soft roof top tent James Baroud Vision 180 takes family camping to the next level. Thanks to gas strut-assisted opening, it deploys in seconds. Spacious yet compact when closed, it fits both small cars and more rugged vehicles. As a result, it’s ideal for Canadian adventures, whether it’s a simple weekend or a long off-grid stay.
- Internal dimensions: 180 × 220 cm (71 × 87 in).
- Closed width: 115 cm (45 in) — compact format for the road.
- Open height: 120 cm (47 in) — optimal freedom of movement.
- Closed height: 33.5 cm (13 in) — low, aerodynamic profile.
- Weight without ladder: 57 kg (126 lb), 5% variation due to manual assembly.
- Capacity: up to 4 people — perfect for families and groups.
- Wind resistance: up to 120 km/h (75 mph) thanks to its reinforced dome shape.
- Frame: high-strength aluminum + insulated composite floor.
- Fabric: patented triple-layer construction with thermal insulation.
- Opening: gas struts — a world first for a folding tent.
- Warranty: 5 years — an unmatched industry standard.
These specifications help campers choose with confidence. For example, its family capacity lets four people travel without compromise, while its relatively light weight makes installation easier on most compact vehicles. As a result, you head out faster with fewer constraints.
Premium Materials and European Manufacturing
For over 30 years, James Baroud has excelled at building globally recognized high-end tents. All materials come from Europe, ensuring consistent quality and outstanding durability.
James Baroud hard shells are produced in Milan, while for this soft roof top tent, the technical walls come from the Netherlands — from the same supplier used for certain NASA space applications.
Gütermann threads from Germany ensure strong, precise seams, and each tent is hand-assembled in Porto, Portugal. Therefore, you get flawless construction backed by a 5-year warranty.
Patented Evolution Fabric
The three-layer fabric delivers remarkable insulation for the soft roof top tent while resisting UV and water. Thanks to its structure and natural tension, it stays stable even in strong winds.
Two doors and four panoramic windows provide an open view of nature, while side openings improve airflow and reduce condensation. In addition, robust mosquito screens keep insects out without sacrificing visibility.
Robust and Versatile Floor of the soft roof top tent
The aluminum-composite floor with insulating polymers delivers rigidity and thermal comfort. Built in a “clamshell” system, it opens in two panels, with one panel deploying sideways using the included poles.
Two rail sets (65 cm or 80 cm) allow flexible mounting: left, right, or rear. As a result, installation on roof bars or racks is simple, strong, and optimized to help reduce fuel consumption.
High-Strength Telescopic Poles
Reinforced aluminum poles provide stability and leveling even on uneven terrain. Their scaffold-style structure lets you adjust each leg independently for a perfect anchor.
High-Density Comfort Mattress of the soft roof top tent
The 65 mm mattress in 28 kg/m³ density foam delivers comfort during long travel nights. Its washable cover makes maintenance easy. For humid or cold climates, an anti-condensation mat is available to optimize airflow and keep the interior dry.
Included Ladder
The 2.4 m ladder supports up to 200 kg and features anti-slip steps. Its rubber feet grip on various surfaces, and its controlled flex helps protect the soft roof top tent from excessive loads. A PVC bag protects the ladder during transport. An XL version (3 m) is available as an option.
James Baroud Portable Light (Optional)
This rechargeable USB light offers multiple modes (white, red anti-insect, night vision) and attaches via built-in magnets. Its 360° rotation lets you light your camp space precisely.
Mounting Clamps
The clamps adjust from 30 to 85 mm and resist freezing and corrosion. Tightening to 14 Nm ensures a perfect hold off-road. Six clamps are included as standard.
Compatibility of the soft roof top tent
The Vision 180 is compatible with most roof bars and roof racks. It can open to the left, to the right, or to the rear, and it pairs perfectly with James Baroud awnings, annexes, and 4-season kits.
In addition, it can be combined with a portable diesel heater, a solar setup, or an auxiliary battery for full off-grid autonomy. As a result, it integrates easily with campervans, 4x4s, or professional overland setups.
Uses and Real-World Scenarios
For a weekend, its fast deployment and generous ventilation deliver cool, comfortable nights. During multi-week trips, its generous space makes it easier to store a complete family loadout.
For months off-grid, its weather resistance and modular insulation let you camp comfortably even during Canadian winters. As a result, it suits both occasional adventurers and long-term travellers.
Practical Tips for Campers
On soft ground, use wider bases for the poles. Check level for a stable setup. On road trips, inspect the clamps regularly and bring a portable light to improve night-time comfort.
For extended stays, test your setup before departure. Add anti-condensation protection and plan your energy (solar or auxiliary battery). Also, adjust ventilation to match weather conditions for optimal comfort.
