Lightweight James Baroud Hard Shell Roof Top Tent

High-End Materials and European Manufacturing

For over 30 years, James Baroud has been building premium hard shell roof top tents known for durability and reliability. For this reason, all materials are sourced exclusively in Europe to deliver uncompromising quality.

Hard shells are produced in Milan, Italy, while technical fabrics come from the Netherlands — from the same supplier used for certain aerospace applications, including NASA. In addition, Gütermann threads from Germany ensure maximum seam strength.

Each tent is then hand-assembled in Porto, Portugal, for a perfect finish. As a result, the 5-year warranty covers the entire product.

Reinforced Hard Shell

The multi-layer fiberglass shell withstands snow, UV rays, heavy rain, and strong winds. In addition, the gelcoat protects the surface long-term against external wear.

An integrated solar fan provides constant airflow, reducing condensation day and night. In addition, self-locking latches ensure a secure closure, even on rough terrain.

The hard shell roof top tent can also be customized in 200+ RAL colours, for a setup that matches your vehicle perfectly.

Patented Waterproof Fabric

The technical fabric repels water, blocks UV, and stays breathable to help prevent condensation. Moreover, the fabric cut is optimized to stay taut even in high winds.

Three doors and 180° panoramic windows deliver full immersion in Canadian landscapes. Tear-resistant mosquito screens keep insects out while maintaining airflow, and rubberized zippers ensure quiet handling, even in cold weather.

Integrated Solar Fan

This 19.2 m³/h fan delivers continuous, quiet ventilation. Its internal battery provides 24 hours of runtime and recharges automatically in sunlight. As a result, the interior stays dry, cool, and comfortable, even in summer.

Secure Latches of the Lightweight roof top tent

Self-locking latches prevent accidental opening while driving. In addition, they’re padlock-compatible, increasing security on long trips.

High-Pressure Struts

Hydraulic struts deploy the tent automatically in seconds. Once locked, they tension the fabric to improve wind resistance and overall stability.

High-Density Mattress

The 65 mm thick mattress in 28 kg/m³ density foam ensures comfortable sleep even on expeditions. Its washable cover makes maintenance easy and, as an option, an anti-condensation mat improves airflow under the mattress.

James Baroud Portable Light (optional)

The included rechargeable USB lamp offers multiple modes (white, red anti-insect). Thanks to its magnets, it mounts anywhere and becomes ideal for camping evenings.

Interior Storage

A ceiling net, Velcro strips, and a 20 cm internal volume under the closed shell make it easy to store pillows, sleeping bags, or light clothing without cluttering the vehicle.

Included Ladder with the hard shell roof top tent

The telescopic ladder supports 200 kg and extends up to 2.4 m. Its ergonomic steps are anti-slip and its rubber feet provide excellent grip. An XL version (3 m) is also available.

Mounting Clamps and Rails

The adjustable clamps (30–85 mm) in high-density polymer resist freezing temps and Canadian corrosion. Torque them to 14 Nm for a perfect off-road hold.

The rails, spaced at 65 cm, let you mount the tent on 2 or 3 roof bars. For intensive off-road use, three bars are therefore recommended.

Compatibility of the Lightweight roof top tent

The Discovery XL is compatible with most roof racks and roof bars. It works with James Baroud awnings, annexes, and 4-season insulation. In addition, it integrates perfectly with solar setups or diesel heaters for full autonomy.

Use Scenarios for the hard shell roof top tent

For a weekend, the tent deploys instantly and delivers inspiring panoramic views. For multi-week trips, its rugged build and interior space make day-to-day life easier.

For extended off-grid travel, it handles extreme Canadian conditions with ease: cold, humidity, wind, and snow.

Tips for Campers

Install the tent on three roof bars for challenging trails. Check the latches before every drive. On road trips, use the internal space to optimize storage.

For winter, use an anti-condensation mat and monitor ventilation. Finally, keep a reasonable speed to preserve the product’s integrity.
